Hydrodec North America, LLC is a one-of-a kind oil reprocessing facility. With a capacity of 8 million gallons per year, the plant recycles spent transformer oil and converts it into new transformer oil which can be used and reused by utilities across the country with virtually zero emissions. OhioMeansJobs was part of the team of local, state and federal officials that worked together to bring this company to Canton. It was the company’s first location in North America. Then and now, Hydrodec utilizes OhioMeansJobs job screening services for all their job orders. The company also uses JobFit™, an online assessment tool designed to help employers hire and retain employees. Prior to opening the plant Hydrodec used OhioMeansJobs facility to interview potential employees, and then upon hiring, conducted employee orientations there as well. It was a seamless transition to new employment. OhioMeansJobs has had 14 job orders and 15 placements with an average wage of $56,000 per year. According to Josh Horstman, Human Resource Consultant for the company, this class marked the first time the refinery utilized their on-line application resulting in over 1,000 applicants. Throughout this process OhioMeansJobs helped candidates apply who either did not have access to the Internet at home, or who were not comfortable with the process. “Though this was a major undertaking for our refinery, everything went smoothly due to the help of OhioMeansJobs and their recruiters,” said Horstman. “OhioMeansJobs was very responsive to our needs and requests. We also were able to utilize Project Hire for one of our new employees which helped to cover some of the costs to train this individual.
